Apartment Holidays in Lanzarote
As the credit crunch starts to bite and the pound remains weak against the euro more and more British consumers are looking for more affordable sunshine breaks abroad. Both in and outside of the euro zone.
The Canary Islands have long been regarded as a relatively cheap and cheerful holiday destination. Just four hours flying time from the UK these seven specks of Spain are located close to the Tropic of Capricorn – and can usually be relied upon to deliver decent weather all year round.
The most easterly island in the chain, Lanzarote, is regarded as one of the more unspoilt options. As there is little in the way of high rise construction and advertising billboards are outlawed.
Tourism here is concentrated in three main resorts. And Puerto del Carmen, the islands oldest and most popular holiday destination, offers the best selection of apartments in Lanzarote. Thanks to the fact that the resort was developered during the 1970´s with this type of accommodation at the very core of the blueprint.
Puerto del Carmen makes an excellent base for a beach holiday as there are a number of great stretches of sand on hand here. From the large main beach, Playa Grande, through to smaller, quieter beaches such as Playa Chica.
The Old Town harbour area – which is where tourists first stayed when package tourism took off on the island – is very much the heart of the resort. Home to a good selection of bars and restaurants and also the embarkation point for a number of boat excursions and day trips. The local tourist authorities are currently working to convert the Harbour are into a luxury marina, which will only enhance its appeal for visitors.
Apartment accommodation in the resort starts from as little as £170 per week. Which secures a seven day stay for two people in a one bedroom apartment on a complex such as Plaza Palmeras. Which is very centrally located and has good on site facilities such as swimming pools, bars and shops.
Flights to Lanzarote can usually be purchased for around £200 return. Depending of course on the time of year – as prices rise dramatically during the peak holiday periods such as Easter and Christmas. And can be booked through a number of low cost carriers, such as easyJet and Jet2 (who offer especially good value for flights from Northern England).
Puerto del Carmen is located just ten minutes by road from the airport, making transfer times quick and very affordable too.
