Enjoy A Holiday In Playa Blanca

As the most recent resort in Lanzarote to be developed, Playa Blanca has much to offer the holidaymaker. It is located on the southernmost tip of the island and consequently benefits from a micro-climate that is a couple of degrees warmer than other parts of the island. It is also extremely well placed to visit the stunning beaches at Papagayo, widely regarded as some of the best beaches in the whole archipelago of the Canary Islands.

Getting there

The island is serviced by a number of low cost operators, making flights to Lanzarote reasonably affordable all year round. Getting to Playa Blanca is straightforward enough, although it is further from the airport than either of the other resorts. By car it will take approximately half an hour. As there is no bus service linking the resort and the airport, visitors can either take a taxi or hire a car. With car rental offices lining the arrivals hall, this is an easy option. Once out on the road, drivers should take the Yaiza exit from the airport and will then find themselves on the motorway to the south of the island. There is a ring road around the village of Yaiza, which is worth taking as it is then straight down to Playa Blanca.

Accommodation

There´s an excellent selection of good quality holiday villas in Playa Blanca.  With most boasting private swimming pools and many other luxury extras. There are several apart-hotels and a selection of four and five star hotels line the seafront.

Restaurants

For visitors in self-catering accommodation, there is a wide range of restaurants throughout the town. Particularly popular is the new establishment La Bocaina, which offers modern European dining with a twist and very reasonable prices. With a seafront location, the El Mirador restaurant in Marina Rubicon is a great choice for lunch or dinner, and also caters as a chill out lounge.

Beaches

Playa Blanca itself has three lovely sandy beaches, at Playa Flamingo, Playa Blanca (in the centre of town) and Playa Dorada. And then there are the six beaches at Papagayo, each of which has something different to offer. These beaches can be reached via the coastal pathway, by car on a dirt track road or by water taxi.

Things to do

The close proximity of the Timanfaya National Park makes this a must-see for holidaymakers staying in Playa Blanca. Hire a car or take a guided tour to see this extraordinary attraction that has had such a profound impact on Lanzarote’s development. The short ferry journey between Playa Blanca and the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura makes this a popular day out, whilst the new harbour at Marina Rubicon, to the east of the town, has excursions, restaurants, shops and bars, including it’s own Café del Mar.
