Villa Holidays in Lanzarote

The eastern most Canary Island of Lanzarote is a perennially popular holiday destination for British and Irish tourists.  Thanks to a winning combination of a great year round climate, fantastic beaches and a high standard of accommodation.

Whilst hotels account for around 30% of all available tourist beds on the island  the bulk of visitors opt to enjoy their holidays in Lanzarote in either apartment or villa accommodation.  The majority of which is concentrated in and around the main holiday resorts on the island.  So where should visitors search for the best Lanzarote holiday villas?

Puerto del Carmen

Formerly known as a small fishing village called La Tiñosa Puerto del Carmen expanded rapidly during the 1970´s and 80´s to become Lanzarote´s busiest holiday resort.

Puerto del Carmen is nominally split into two main areas.  The Old Town, which is located around the harbour area.  And the only slightly newer New Town – which is arrayed alongside the Avenida de las Playas, the main 6km thoroughfare that runs alongside the resorts main beaches.

Puerto del Carmen boasts the best nightlife on the island for tourists and the widest selection of bars and restaurants of any of the resorts.  With the pick of the holiday villas located in the upmarket enclave of Los Mojones, which is around five minutes walk from the Old Town harbour area.

Playa Blanca

The jewel of the south, Playa Blanca is currently Lanzarote´s fastest growing resort.  With a population that has quadrupled in the last ten years alone.

Playa Blanca has emerged as the second most popular destination on Lanzarote over the last decade thanks to the fact that it´s location delivers the best weather on the island.  With more sunshine hours and higher temperatures than its resort rivals.

Holiday villas have formed an integral part of the accommodation mix in Playa Blanca.  With hundreds of overseas investors snapping up property in the resort in order to rent out to other holidaymakers.  As a result prices are often more competitive here – with villas with private pools available to rent from as little as €350 per week.

Costa Teguise

Once the uprmarket alternative to Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote´s most northerly resort makes an ideal base for anyone keen to explore the islands many cultural attractions.

Costa Teguise was the brain child of the island born artist Cesar Manrique – who set out to create a coastal sister resort to the former island capital of Teguise, located around 5km inland.

The selection of holiday villas available for rent is not as great as in the other resorts – but the quality of accommodation remains high.  With the bulk located in and around the main beach in Costa Teguise at Playa Cucharas.
